Badge Finishes

Understanding Badge Finish Terminology

» Nickel Plate (Not Recommended)

Hot nickel solution applied by the electroplating process to the polished base metal of a badge. It is silver in color and has a fair degree of hardness. Nickelplate will sometimes lose some of it's luster with age.

» Rhodium Plate (Fine For Light Use)

Platinum metal group, precious metal that is applied by the electroplating process over a bright nickel base. Rhodium can be distinguished by it's brilliant white finish and is tarnish resistant. It will not discolor or peel from the surface of the badge.

» Gold Plate  (Fine For Light Use)

Deposit of 22K+ fine gold electroplate on base material for a rich, bright appearance.

» Rho-Glo® (Recommended For Heavy Use)

Base material which has a solid silver color throughout and requires no surface plating. Highly polished to a brilliant luster. A clear coating is then applied to enhance its durability.

» Hi-Glo® (Recommended For Heavy Use)

Base material which has a solid gold color throughout and requires no surface plating. Highly polished to a brilliant luster. A clear coating is then applied to enhance its durability.

» Two-Tone (Recommended For Heavy Use)

Combination of gold and silver colors. Badges with applied panels will normally consist of  Hi-Glo material for the Gold color and Rho-Glo for the silver color. Badges of the one piece construction will consist of Hi-Glo panels and Rhodium plate background or Rho-Glo panels and gold plate background.

» Karat-Klad (Recommended)

Heavy gold electroplate (HGE) is the ultimate in fine gold plate. This process applies a uniformly thin coating of tarnish proof high karat gold, purer and more durable than gold plate.

» Extras

Hi-Glo, Rho-Glo, and Karat-Klad Standard Extras
Include Dura-Enamel Full-Color seals, and Hard Dura - Enamel lettering at no extra cost. These extras cost $5.00 each on Nickel, Rhodium or Gold plate badges.

» Recommended Finishes

Leon Uniform recommended these finishes not because they cost more (they do) but rather because they are simply better. A lifetime warranty comes with these finishes. Refinishing is free if required. (There is a small handling fee)

Extras listed above are included. Hard enamel lettering does not chip or fall out. The finishes last forever. If you are planning on keeping your badge for a long period of time it's well worth the investment. The difference in cost is actually very little if you compare durability over time.
